Mephitids are animals form the family Mephitidae, embracing Molina´s hog-nosed skunk and striped skunk. They are medium-sized animals divided into 11 species spread throughout the Americas and Southeast Asia. Mephitids live in dense forests and mountain regions. These animals have a varied omnivorous diet, composed of small invertebrates and eggs. There are two species found in Brazil:
